Cavedago: Trails, Landscape and Historic Places

Landscape and Views

Cavedago lies in a broad hollow of forests and meadows. A hollow is a lower-lying landscape area. In Cavedago, forests and meadows are part of this landscape area. From Cavedago, expansive views extend across Val di Non and towards the Brenta Dolomites. Cavedago is also a strategic access point to Adamello-Brenta Nature Park. Historic farmsteads are scattered throughout the area. The farmsteads bear witness to the community’s traditional rural, forestry and livestock-farming character.

Hiking Trails and Historic Routes

The Via Imperiale is a historic path between Sporminore and Molveno. The Via Imperiale follows an old trail between the Sporeggio Valley and Banale. A historic path may date back to older connections within the landscape area. Routes 2 and 3 of the Via Imperiale, which pass through Cavedago, are marked with QR-code signs providing descriptive, photographic and historical information. The easy out-and-back hike from Cavedago to Passo Santel starts at Piazza San Lorenzo and leads through forests and meadows. The path from Cavedago to Andalo passes through Maso Pozza, near the Church of San Tommaso, and through Località Priori before reaching Andalo at Maso Toscana. The circular route from Cavedago to Andalo and back is moderately difficult and starts and ends at Piazza San Lorenzo.

Mountain Biking and Canyoning

The Anello Cavedago mountain-bike circuit is 6,749.96 metres long. The Anello Cavedago mountain-bike circuit features two strenuous but relatively short climbs and rest areas close to nature. The canyoning tour in the Rio Briz is approximately 1.5 kilometres long and includes nine abseiling points. The canyoning experience in the Rio Briz near Cavedago includes swimming in clear water, sliding over natural waterfalls, descending through the gorge and jumping from rocks. Canyoning refers to a gorge tour that may include water passages and abseiling points.

Churches, Farmsteads and Alpine Huts

The Church of San Tommaso is a Gothic building from the mid-14th century and preserves numerous 14th-century frescoes. The Church of San Tommaso can be reached from the SS421 via a large car park at Maso Daldoss. The Church of San Lorenzo is an isolated 16th-century church in Cavedago and preserves valuable frescoes. Frescoes are wall paintings on fresh plaster. The three alpine huts owned by the Municipality of Cavedago—Malga Dagnola bassa, Malga Dagnola alta and Malga Marocchi—are evidence of Cavedago’s former alpine pastoral economy. The three alpine huts are currently used for private accommodation purposes.

Sports Centre and Getting There

The Priori Sports Centre has a protected climbing trail and a playground. To reach Cavedago by public transport, take a train to Trento or Mezzocorona and then a scheduled bus operated by Trentino Trasporti.
