Craftsmanship and Church Art in Pettenasco
The Museo dell’Arte della Tornitura del Legno is housed in a former wood-turning workshop belonging to the Maulini family. The former wood-turning workshop operated from 1886 to 1970.
The historic workshop room of the Museo dell’Arte della Tornitura del Legno still contains the gears and lathes used by the Maulini family for woodworking; they still function thanks to a large wooden wheel powered by the Roggia Molinara.
Pettenasco had a historic craft tradition of wood turning. This historic craft tradition drew its driving power from the Torrente Pescone and the Roggia Molinara. A wood-turning workshop is a place where wood is worked on a lathe.
The Church of Saints Audenzio and Caterina in Pettenasco has a single-nave interior. A single-nave interior is a church space with only one main nave. The interior of the church contains paintings of the mystical marriage of Saint Caterina, Saint Carlo in a procession with the relic of the Holy Nail, the martyrdom of Saints Quirico and Giulitta, and the Nativity of Jesus. Four side altars are dedicated to the Holy Cross, the Madonna del Rosario, Saints Julius and Audenzio, and Saint Anthony the Abbot and Saint Anthony of Padua.
Festivals, Lakeside Spots and Seasonal Planning
On the last Sunday in November, Pettenasco celebrates its patron saint’s festival with a procession. The festival also includes the sale of the biscuits “le ruote di Santa Caterina”. A procession is a communal religious parade.
The festival of the Madonna del Rosario in Pettenasco takes place on the second Sunday in September. It includes processions, a floating fire on the lake and a traditional confectionery fair.
The festival dates fall in September and November and are each held on a Sunday.
At the southern end of the lakeside promenade is the installation “Vers l’autre côté”, which is called “Fionda”.
The LocalitĂ Paganetto on Via Per Armeno is considered an equipped picnic area.
At the mouth of the Pescone where it flows into Lake Orta, there is a small, free public beach that has no facilities. The beach has a sandy bottom and shallow water.
Boating and Routes on Lake Orta
Public boat services operate on Lake Orta every day from March to October.
The cycling tour “La Riviera di Pettenasco” begins near the parish church of Santa Caterina and shortly afterwards passes the Museo dell’Arte della Tornitura del Legno.
The “Grand Tour del Lago d'Orta” route follows the Pescone to Pettenasco and then continues towards Crabbia along a panoramic path with views of the lake.
