Ironworking as Part of Netro’s History
At the Centro di Documentazione sulla Lavorazione del Ferro in Netro, more than 1,000 drawings, catalogued documents from 1901 to 1964 and historic machines preserve the history of ironworking. The collection includes tools, drawings, sample collections and machines manufactured by Officine Rubino, documenting the development of this craft. Guided tours are offered at the Centro di Documentazione sulla Lavorazione del Ferro. A guided tour can be scheduled as a dedicated part of a visit to the documentation centre in Netro.
Local History and Churches
Only one tower remains of Netro Castle. The tower is used as the bell tower of the Oratorio di San Rocco. Just a few steps from the Parrocchiale dell’Assunta stands the small Baroque building known as the Oratorio di S. Rocco. The Parrocchiale dell’Assunta is located in the centre of Netro and dates from the 19th century.
The Pieve o Chiesa Cimiteriale di Santa Maria Assunta has a much older architectural history. The Romanesque church dates from the 11th century and became a cemetery church in the 16th century. The façade of its original building from the year 1000 is incorporated into a three-aisled extension dating from 1491. The Pieve o Chiesa Cimiteriale di Santa Maria Assunta also has three stone apses. The two churches differ in age: the Parrocchiale dell’Assunta dates from the 19th century, while the Pieve dates from the 11th century.
Inside the Pieve o Chiesa Cimiteriale di Santa Maria Assunta are frescoes from the 15th and 16th centuries. These frescoes are attributed to Domenico della Marca of Ancona. The Pieve is located in Netro’s cemetery and can be reached from the SP 500 via Via Rubino and then Via Oddone. The Parrocchiale is in the centre of the village, while the Pieve is in Netro’s cemetery.
Marked Trails and Landscape
The “IL SENTIERO DEI PE' D'OCA” trail is marked throughout with the white-and-red B12 trail marker and the “Pe d’oca” logo. The mountain bike route from Netro passes through chestnut and birch woods, meadows and pastures; therefore, both wooded and open sections should be taken into account when planning the day. The continuous B12 markings and the “Pe d’oca” logo help with navigation along the route.
Above Netro’s centre, in the Carasseie area, lies the “Area attrezzata Masini”. It is an equipped rest area.
Historic Carnival in Netro
“Il Carvé ’d Netro” is a historic carnival in Netro. At the 2026 edition, the keys to the town were traditionally handed over by the mayor to the historic masked characters.
