Lake, Trails and Local Nature

The Sentiero del Verbano is the main axis of the Vie Verdi dei Laghi. The Percorso Natura is designed as a circular route for exploring the Monvalle area. It runs along the lake and through forests with views of the Varese foothills. The two routes differ in their design: the Sentiero del Verbano forms an axis within the Vie Verdi dei Laghi, while the Percorso Natura is a loop through the Monvalle area. If you are planning to enjoy both nature and the lake in Monvalle, the Percorso Natura includes the shore, forest and views of the foothills as specific landscape features of the circular route. The views of the Varese foothills extend the landscape beyond the immediate lakeshore.

Churches and Historical Traces

The Chiesa dei Santi Nazaro e Celso already existed before the 13th century and is located in the Turro district of Monvalle. Despite later alterations, its interior retains a simple Romanesque appearance. For those interested in culture, the two churches differ in their architectural history: one already existed before the 13th century, while the other replaced a 13th-century parish church.

The present-day Chiesa di Santo Stefano Protomartire replaced the old 13th-century parish church. The old parish church was demolished in 1970. The present church preserves a 17th-century altarpiece. It comes from the former parish church.

Events and Regional Cuisine

The Palio dei Rioni will take place at Camping Lido di Monvalle on 28 June 2026. The programme includes competitions, sports, and gatherings between neighbours and different generations.

The Pizzoccherata is a traditional gastronomic event held on Saturday evening. It officially opens the weekend of the Fiera dell'Agricoltura. The Fiera dell'Agricoltura is a market event featuring local agricultural products. Its programme includes a food stall, games for everyone and a farmers' menu.

The Palio focuses on sports and gatherings, while the Fiera centres on agricultural products, gastronomy, games and the farmers' menu.

Rail Connection

The Stazione di Monvalle is located in Monvalle on the Novara–Luino railway line. The station is directly connected to this railway line. Travellers arriving in Monvalle by train should use the Stazione di Monvalle on the Novara–Luino line as their reference point. Both the line and the station name are therefore relevant to travelling to Monvalle by train.
