Accommodation in Gressan
Winter Sports in Pila
The municipality of Gressan is home to Pila, a renowned ski resort at an altitude of 1,800 metres. Pila has 70 kilometres of slopes and 13 lifts. Lifts are uphill transport systems that enable skiers in resorts to move between lower and higher slopes. In Pila, skiing, snowboarding, freestyle and telemark skiing are possible. When snowboarding, you ride on a board; freestyle includes tricks and jumps; and telemark skiing is done with a free heel.
Connections to Pila and Gressan
From the centre of Aosta, you can reach Pila and its slopes directly by cable car in 18 minutes. Bus route 5, “Aosta-Aymavilles”, connects Aosta with Gressan. For travel planning purposes, the cable-car route from the centre of Aosta to Pila and bus route 5 between Aosta and Gressan are two clearly separate connections with different destinations.
Cycling and Walking Routes
The Pila Bike Park has more than 130 kilometres of trails and an elevation difference of 2,100 metres. In cycling, a trail is a route. A bike park brings together such cycling routes. At the Pila Bike Park, the more than 130 kilometres of trails and the 2,100 metres of elevation gain can be considered separate planning factors for a cycling tour. The Les Iles di Gressan sports and recreation area is connected to the Sarre–Pontey cycling and walking route. The route follows the river and is suitable for walking, running and cycling.
Routes for Exploring
The “Itinerario W – Gressan Museo a cielo aperto (itinerario lungo)” route is 12.7 kilometres long and takes 3 hours and 30 minutes. For planning your time, the 12.7 kilometres and the duration of 3 hours and 30 minutes are presented as separate figures. The route covering 12.7 kilometres and taking 3 hours and 30 minutes forms a separate time block within a day trip. Several routes for exploring the surrounding area begin at Maison Gargantua.
Nature in Gressan
The Côte de Gargantua nature reserve in Gressan encompasses an elongated spur formed from glacial deposits. A spur is an elongated ridge of land that projects into the surrounding terrain. Glacial deposits are material transported and deposited by glaciers.
Historic Sites and Frescoes
The Church of Sainte-Marie-Magdeleine, also known as the “La Madeleine Chapel”, was built in the 12th century. The Tour de Villa contains a hall with a cycle of heraldic frescoes. The frescoes depict the coats of arms of various noble families from the Aosta Valley and allied countries. The frescoes are believed to date from the second half of the 15th century. A heraldic cycle is a series of several coats of arms designed as a coherent group of images. Coats of arms are heraldic symbols that may be associated with a family or a country.
Fita di pomme in October
Fita di pomme, Gressan’s apple festival, takes place on the first Sunday in October. The festival includes a market for autumn fruit, typical local products and handicrafts, as well as various entertainment activities.
