Pila: Ski holiday between slopes, mountain lifts and mountain trails
Accommodation in Pila
When choosing accommodation for a ski holiday in Pila, two questions are particularly helpful: What kind of slope layout can you expect in the ski area, and which starting points for mountain lifts, mountain trails or other activities fit your travel plans? Pila combines winter sports with excursion destinations, hiking trails, cycling and an adventure park. The altitude, access and type of activity differ significantly.
Pila ski area: Slopes up to 2,700 metres
The Pila ski area has four black, 21 red and four blue slopes. Together, they cover a total length of 70 kilometres, while the ski area reaches an altitude of 2,700 metres. If you are travelling with a mixed group, this breakdown provides an objective basis for comparing your own requirements with the range of slopes in Pila. It does not indicate current openings, snow conditions or the suitability of individual slopes for specific people.
Taking the gondola from Aosta to Pila
The ski area is accessed via Aosta. The gondola from central Aosta takes you to Pila in 18 minutes; the lift goes directly to an altitude of 1,800 metres. The lower station of the Aosta–Pila gondola can be reached from Aosta railway station on foot via a short pedestrian underpass. There are therefore two relevant points of reference in the city of Aosta: the centre for the gondola ride and the railway station for the walk to the lower station.
Stella di Pila and Lago Chamolé
Stella di Pila is located at an altitude of 2,723 metres and offers views of Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn, Gran Paradiso and Monte Rosa. You can also begin the Alta balconata di Pila route by taking the gondola to Stella di Pila. Another clearly measured destination is Lago Chamolé: From the mountain station of the Chamolé chairlift, the hike is 678 metres long, takes 15 minutes one way and follows trail 19C. The lake lies in a green hollow and offers views of Mont Blanc, the Gran San Bernardo Valley and Gran Combin.
Walking and trekking trails for different requirements
Maps and GPX tracks are available for walking and trekking trails in Pila. The routes range from easy paths suitable for families and pushchairs to more challenging trails for experienced hikers. However, this classification says nothing about current trail conditions, the weather or whether an individual can manage the route on a particular day.
Bike park, MTB rental and adventure park
There are also several activity areas in Pila outside classic skiing. The Pila Bike Park includes the “DH World Cup Corrado Herin” downhill run. Cycling activities in Pila also include downhill, cross-country, flow trail, enduro, e-bike, all-mountain and pump track. Pila’s MTB rental service is located next to the ticket offices at the Pila–Stella departure station. Downhill, enduro and e-bikes, as well as bicycles for children, are available.
The Pila Adventure Park offers Tibetan bridges, log walkways, zip lines and rope-net bridges. The facilities also include safety equipment and supervision by staff.
To the main travel overview: Gressan.
