Gignod on the Plateau
Gignod is located on a plateau at the foot of Punta Chaligne. A plateau is an elevated, relatively level landform. From Gignod, panoramic views extend across the mountains of the Valpelline Valley and the Swiss Grand Combin massif. The Via Francigena passes through Gignod. The Via Francigena is a historic pilgrimage route and one of the area's notable paths.

Ancient Paths and a Medieval Tower
The section of the Via Francigena in Gignod follows ancient paths associated with the Salassi, the Romans and medieval pilgrims travelling to Rome. Gignod is home to a square medieval tower. The tower dates from approximately the 11th or 12th century and represents the area's former role in controlling transalpine traffic on the road to the Swiss Valais. Transalpine traffic here refers to traffic across the Alps.
Church and International Crafts
The Sant'Ilario church in Gignod contains 15th-century frescoes. The scenes include a Descent from the Cross, a Madonna and prophets with Gothic scrolls. The Maison de l’Artisanat International is housed in the historic Casaforte Caravex. The exhibition centre, opened in 2016, is intended for temporary exhibitions of local and international crafts. Its thematic scope therefore ranges from crafts from the immediate area to international works.
Hiking in Summer
In summer, many marked hiking trails of varying difficulty lead through the natural surroundings of Gignod and, for example, to Rifugio Chaligne. Marked trails are signposted routes whose different difficulty levels enable graduated planning. Mountain Bike Trails and Ru Neuf
In Gignod, mountain bike trails run through the surrounding forests and along the Ru Neuf. The Ru Neuf is an old irrigation channel. Winter and Spring on Punta Chaligne

Gignod can be reached via the “Aosta – Bosses” and “Aosta – Excenex – Arpuilles – Gignod” bus routes. Two specifically named bus connections are therefore available for travelling to Gignod.
