Frachey between meadows and forests

Frachey is a small village between meadows and forests. The hamlets of Frachey and Saint-Jacques have walking trails. Those planning to explore the area on foot will find trails in the two expressly named hamlets.

Walking trail through Pian di Villy

The walking trail through the Pian di Villy area leads to the hamlet of Le Frachey. In winter, this trail is prepared and is therefore also passable in the snow. In snowy conditions, the route from Pian di Villy to Le Frachey is thus described as a passable winter trail. Numerous wooden sculptures by artists from the Aosta Valley can be seen along the trail. New outdoor sculptures are created along this trail every year during the Ayas Artisanat event. The trail therefore passes through a landscape where, alongside the route to Le Frachey, works of art can also be seen in the open air.

Sentiero Italia and eastern mountain trail

Section SI F18 of the Sentiero Italia leads to the Rifugio Guide di Frachey and then continues to Alpe Ciarcerio. The sequence of destinations is clear: the Rifugio Guide di Frachey is first encountered along the trail, after which the section continues to Alpe Ciarcerio. The term section here refers to part of the Sentiero Italia and not to an additional place name.

East of Frachey, a trail begins that leads through the forest via the hamlets of Soussun at 1,940 metres and Gontonery at 2,206 metres to the Rothorn Pass at 2,692 metres. At 2,692 metres, the Rothorn Pass is higher than both hamlets. The elevations place the three points along the mountain trail.

Winter sports and funicular railway

A Monterosa Ski route begins in Frachey and can be followed on skis to Gressoney-La-Trinité and Alagna. A ski route is a route travelled on skis. Gressoney-La-Trinité and Alagna are destinations on the same route. The funicular railway operated by Leitner Ropeways runs from the Frachey hamlet at 1,617 metres to Alpe Ciarcerio at 1,981 metres. Frazione is the Italian term for a hamlet.

Cultural attractions in Frachey and Le Frachey

The Cappella Immacolata Concezione in Le Frachey is one of the cultural assets in the territory of the municipality of Ayas. The chapel in Frachey is dedicated to San Rocco; it was originally dedicated to San Claudio. The chapel in Frachey was founded by Jean-Claude Frachey on 22 February 1653. The village’s cultural attractions therefore include both the cultural asset in Le Frachey and the chapel dedicated to San Rocco, which was originally dedicated to San Claudio.
