Courmayeur at the Mont Blanc Massif
Courmayeur lies at the foot of the Mont Blanc Massif in a natural amphitheater. Coniferous forests, mountains and glaciers surround the town. This landscape provides the geographical framework for getting oriented in Courmayeur. Mountain Culture in the Town
The Museo Alpino Duca degli Abruzzi focuses on Courmayeur’s alpine history. The museum is located in the Casa delle Guide and opened in 1929. It preserves historical documents, memorabilia and photographs relating to Courmayeur’s mountain guides, their mountaineering achievements and their expeditions.
The parish church of Chiesa parrocchiale dei Santi Pantaleone e Valentino has a bell tower that probably dates from the 11th or 12th century. The tower has a rare, tiara-shaped spire. At the entrance to Val Veny stands the Santuario di Notre-Dame de la Guérison at the foot of the Brenva Glacier. The bell tower and the sanctuary represent two separate cultural destinations in the alpine surroundings of Courmayeur and at the entrance to Val Veny.
Winter Trails and Mountain Destinations
The Saussurea alpine botanical garden is located at the Pavillon du Mont Fréty station. From Courmayeur, you can approach the summits of Mont Blanc by taking the Skyway cable car. The garden represents alpine botany at a named station, while the cable-car ride from Courmayeur enables you to approach the Mont Blanc summits.
The Balconata del Monte Bianco is a hiking trail between Val Ferret and Val Veny.
In Val Ferret, groomed and track-set cross-country ski trails run from Planpincieux at an altitude of 1,580 meters to the village of Lavachey. They include several variants and loops of different lengths; altogether, the trails cover approximately 20 kilometers. The approximate total length of around 20 kilometers describes the extent of all the trails mentioned, not the length of an individual loop.
In Courmayeur, the Corso di Iniziazione all’Alpinismo offers a three-day introduction to mountaineering for people of all ages. The Fun Park Courmayeur offers children acro-bungee, a course for electric mini-quads, tubing, a Tyrolean zip line, trampolines, inflatable play equipment and a ball pit. Getting to Courmayeur
Courmayeur can be reached by bus from Aosta or Chamonix. For traveling without your own vehicle, the bus connection from Aosta or Chamonix is a concrete part of your trip planning.
