Ganna: Local history and winter destinations in Balaton - North
Accommodation in Ganna
Ganna combines a village setting featuring churches, chapels and monuments with winter destinations in the wider Balaton - North destination.
Buildings and monuments in Ganna
The Szentháromság-szobor stands in front of the house at Fő utca 13. It was created by stonemason Vajda János from Pápa. A German-language inscription states that Stehger József and his wife had the monument erected in 1943. This brings details about its design and patrons together at a specific location.
The Kivándorlási kereszt is also located on Fő utca: it stands in front of house number 61 and was made of stone and marble by Kethy György. Another historic building is the parish house next to the church in Ganna. It was built around 1770 and originally served as a forester’s house. These details offer different points of reference for understanding Ganna’s architectural history, without reducing the locations to a single monument.
The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross (Szent Kereszt felmagasztalása) is defined by its circular interior, which is vaulted by a dome; beneath it is a crypt that is also circular. Next to Ganna’s round church, a monument in the park commemorates the centenary of the 1848 Revolution. It was created by local folk artist and woodcarver Dani Pál. The monument was made by adapting a votive cross that had been damaged during the Second World War.
Kisganna and historical local connections
In Kisganna, the church was built in 1780 in the Late Baroque style. At the northern end of the village, the Szent Vendel Chapel stands on a small hill, facing the main road. The church and chapel therefore differ both in their architectural history and their location. Táncsics Mihály also worked as an assistant teacher in Ganna. This historical connection adds a person from the village’s history to its architectural points of reference.

SkiArena Vibe Park in Eplény is part of the wider Balaton - North destination, not Ganna. Eplény has 16 ski runs, with a total ski system length of 7,984 meters. The Ámos-hegyi lookout point at SkiArena Vibe Park also offers views of the high Bakony landscape. These winter sports and landscape features describe Eplény and the region, not the facilities or location of accommodation in Ganna.
Balaton - North also offers other themes for planning a trip. At Levendula Ház in Tihany, an interactive exhibition covers the formation of the Tihany Peninsula and lavender cultivation; there is also a craft workshop and a discovery garden. Hegyestű, meanwhile, lies between Zánka and Monoszló and is 337 meters high. There, a quarry face exposes the interior of a basalt volcano that was active around eight million years ago. A lookout point with a panoramic information board helps visitors identify the surrounding hills. These examples belong to the wider Balaton - North destination and are not features of Ganna.
