At the Marienglashöhle crystal grotto in Friedrichroda, mining history and geology meet. The former mine dates back to the 18th century. Its 110-metre-long tunnel reveals rock layers millions of years old at geological viewing windows. In the crystal grotto, gypsum crystals up to 90 centimetres long sparkle.
