Culture
Instrument making is a traditional craft of the Vogtland region. Along the cycling route, the Neue Scheune Bergen serves as an exhibition of folk art.
Nature and Geology
Streuberg is a geotope in the centre of Bergen. At the same time, it is a disused granite quarry containing Bergen-type two-mica granite. At the upper benches in the southwestern part of the quarry, the contact between granite and slate is exposed. The quarry is regarded as the type locality for the uranium mineral uranocircite. Bergenite was discovered in 1956 on a spoil heap at Streuberg and named after Bergen.
History
The Herlasgrün–Oelsnitz railway line was originally part of the Vogtland State Railway and opened in November 1865. A disused section of railway was converted into the Falkenstein–Oelsnitz cycle path in the nearby area and opened in 2011.
Cycle Path
The Falkenstein–Oelsnitz cycle path runs through Bergen. The route leads from Falkenstein station via Bergen, Lottengrün and Altmannsgrün to Oelsnitz station. The start and finish are located directly at railway stations, making it possible to return by Vogtlandbahn.
Geographical Location
The Vogtland region offers opportunities for hiking, cycling and mountain biking amid forests and green hills. The region can be reached by ICE and regional train services, which serve stops in Plauen and Auerbach, among others.
