Winter and Trails

The Annaberger Landring is a cycling and hiking route approximately 55 km long. A cross-connection creates a northern and a southern loop, each approximately 30 km long.

The approximately 10 km-long Hagebuttenweg trail runs between Mildenau, Geyersdorf and Königswalde, passing through fields and along old farm tracks and by viewpoints such as the Pöhlberg. The route is suitable for hiking and cycling and provides information about the local flora and fauna.

The Pöhlatal–Rauschenbachtal–Preßnitztal route leads to just before the upper village of Mildenau and continues into the Rauschenbachtal nature reserve. The Arnsfeld tree educational trail uses information boards to explain native trees and shrubs. There is also an outdoor swimming pool on Freibadtalstraße.

Landscape

Mildenau developed as a forest-strip village, whose three- and four-sided farmsteads were built halfway up the mountain slopes. The surrounding landscape offers views towards the Preßnitztal, Rauschenbachtal and Pöhlatal valleys and includes distinctive hedgerow landscapes. Mildenau is connected to the Erzgebirge/Vogtland Nature Park and the European long-distance hiking trail E3.

Hermannshöhe is located in the vicinity of Mildenau. The surrounding area includes Vogelhöhe, Stülpnerhöhle, Ritterhöhle and Schreckenberg.

Culture and History

The Protestant Church in Mildenau was built from 1834 to 1839 and is a protected cultural monument. The Mildenau History Trail runs for 2.89 km through Mildenau. It features 12 carved and inscribed panels as well as 50 ceramic panels displaying views of historic buildings.

The Mildenau Mining Trail provides insights into the history of mining in Mildenau. In the past, there were approximately 230 adits and mines there.

Nearby attractions include Annaberg-Buchholz, the former Franciscan monastery, the Hospitalkirche St. Trinitatis in Annaberg-Buchholz and St. Anna Church in Annaberg-Buchholz. The surrounding area also includes Bärenstein, the Erlöserkirche, Cranzahl, the Himmelfahrtskirche and Annaberg-Buchholz, Bergkirche St. Marien.

Traditional handicraft techniques of the Ore Mountains include ring turning and wood shaving. In demonstration workshops in the Ore Mountains, visitors can watch artisans make pyramids, Schwibbogen candle arches, smoking figurines and angels.
