Landscape and Water

Dockweiler is located in the source and catchment area of many Eifel rivers. At the Dockweiler Drees, iron-rich deposits reflect the high iron content that is typical of spring water in the Volcanic Eifel. A log cabin at the Dockweiler Drees provides shelter for hikers and nature lovers. The Moselle–Erft–Lieser hiking trail passes directly by the Dockweiler Drees. On June 23, 2026, the water at the Dockweiler Drees was not suitable for drinking.

Culture and History

St. Laurentius probably began as a hall church in the 11th century and was expanded into a basilica toward the end of the 12th century. Dockweiler’s former railway station is a standard-design building from the early 20th century. A cross house at Gerolsteiner Straße 5 features Neoclassical motifs and is dated 1856. A plastered building at Hauptstraße 24 is probably a former rectory from the mid-19th century.

The mountain chapel on the Mühlenberg was built in 1949/50 at the boundary of Dockweiler, Dreis, and Betteldorf as a shared chapel of thanksgiving. It commemorates the parish’s protection from major war damage. The fair in Dockweiler is the patronal festival of St. Laurentius and takes place on the first Sunday after August 10 around the Pfarrer-Hubert-Schmitz-Haus.
