Kirchberg (Hunsrück): Hotels and Accommodation
Kirchberg is located in the holiday region of the Hunsrück uplands between the Moselle and Rhine rivers. The town has held town rights since 1259 and is considered the oldest town in the Hunsrück.
History and Culture
The Roman road station of Dumnissus was located on what is now Kirchberg’s main street. The poet Ausonius mentioned it around AD 368 in his Mosella. At the western edge of the town stands a replica of a Roman milestone, commemorating the Roman road from Bingen to Trier.
The Catholic parish church of St. Michael is designated as Kirchberg’s oldest building. Its west tower dates from the 13th century, while the nave dates from the 15th century. Another landmark of the town is the 36-metre-high water tower, built in 1899.
At the Local History Museum, an exhibition traces the development of the bicycle from the draisine to the modern mountain bike.
Nature
Kirchberg is a starting point for hikers exploring an extensive network of trails. The local tourism region has seven certified premium circular hiking trails. They are between 5 and 16 kilometres long and pass through diverse natural landscapes with streams, viewpoints and rock formations.
In the Kirchberg holiday region, cycling tours for trekking bikes, e-bikes, road bikes and gravel bikes are promoted. Connecting routes combine cycle paths within the Hunsrück-Nahe cycling region with links to the Moselle.
