Bärenbach's local history was closely linked with neighboring Naumburg from the Middle Ages until the end of the 18th century. Wine was cultivated in the Bärenbach Valley from the Middle Ages into the modern era. Until the 18th century, the Schloßberg Spring supplied drinking water to the Naumburg ruins and their manorial wine house.

A cultural heritage route along a Roman road passed Bärenbach in the direction of the Nahe Valley, Kirn, the Idar Forest, and the Moselle. Bärenbach and Naumburg Castle are associated with the 12th century.
