Geographical location

The Prüm–Trier bus service runs regularly through the Nimstal valley, making it possible to travel without a car.

The Hünert and Hardt residential developments are located in the immediate vicinity of Rommersheim. The surrounding area is home to Schwirzheimer Kopf, the Birresborn and Achelter ice caves. Further afield in the region are Kasselburg, Dollendorf Castle Ruins, Neu Blankenheim Castle Ruins, and the Upper and Lower Castles of Manderscheid.

History

Rommersheim was first documented in 721 under the Latinized name “Romairo villa”. In 861, King Lothar II granted Prüm Abbey the right to open a market and mint coins in Rommersheim.

The Rommersheim market is considered probably the oldest market in the Eifel. At the beginning of the 13th century, Rommersheim was home to the Oberhof of Prüm Abbey, the main court of its territory. The parish church of St. Maximin has stood on Hubertusberg since the middle of the 11th century.
