Above Bernkastel’s Old Town, Landshut Castle rises on the foundations of a Roman fortification dating from the 4th century. From here, panoramic views extend across the Moselle loop, the rooftops of the Old Town and the surrounding vineyards.

The historic centre of Bernkastel features narrow lanes, half-timbered houses and a historic market square. The townscape also includes the Spitzhäuschen, which is considered a popular photo opportunity.

Wine Landscape
The Bernkasteler Doctor vineyard lies directly above the historic Old Town. Its steep location on Devonian slate, together with the local light and reflection conditions, supports the cultivation of Riesling, which is tended there by hand.

Parking is available in Bernkastel and Kues, including a multi-storey car park by the Old Town and facilities along both banks of the Moselle.
Bernkastel-Kues provides access to hikes through the steep Moselle vineyards, the Moselsteig long-distance hiking trail, the Moselsteig side trails and local routes in the holiday region.
The Moselle Cycle Route runs directly through the Bernkastel-Kues area. It is considered flat and signposted; along the way, vineyards, the river and Moselle villages shape the scenery.

The area surrounding Bernkastel-Kues includes the Haardtkopf, Baldenau Castle, Springiersbach, Marienburg and the Steingerüttelkopf.
