History

For centuries, the Upper Castle was the residence of the Nassau rulers. Since 1905, it has housed the Siegerlandmuseum for art and regional history. Its collection on economic history includes evidence of the region's mining and iron-processing tradition. The Rubens Gallery contains nine original paintings by Peter Paul Rubens; portraits of the ruling family hang in the Orangery Hall.

The “Around the Crown” tour brings almost 900 years of Siegen's history to life in the historic center. The tour also includes a visit to the historic princely crypt in the Lower Castle. The Hainer Tunnel extends approximately 720 meters beneath the Siegberg. At the show mine, knowledgeable guided tours provide insights into the history of mining.

Nature and walking tours

The Historic Wildlife Park has three circular trails that lead past mature trees, along the Hermelsbach stream, and by interactive stations. A walk through the surrounding castle park reveals several aspects of Siegen's history. Its variety of plants makes the castle park a worthwhile destination at any time of year.
