Soier Lake: Nature and things to do
Humic substances from the surrounding moorland turn the water of Soier Lake brown. The lake lies within a landscape conservation area that is home to sensitive and rare animal and plant species. This means that both the distinctive colour of the water and the protected natural environment are highlights here.
On the southern shore, there is a bathing area, a kiosk and boat rental. The circular trail around Soier Lake connects a barefoot trail, a moor nature trail and a birdwatching trail. A walk therefore brings together several themes: the moor, birds and the experience of walking barefoot. Dogs must be kept on a leash at Soier Lake under a municipal regulation. Moorland Trails and Scenery
At the eastern edge of Soier Lake, the moor nature trail leads to three information stations. They explain how the moor formed and its importance to the region. This gives the trail a clear focus: it provides background information about the moor rather than simply showcasing its landscape.
The Ach Circular Trail in Bad Bayersoien passes through woodland, peat bogs, moorland and moss-covered areas with distinctive flora and fauna; sparkling streams accompany the route. Unlike the moor nature trail, whose three stations explain the formation of the moor and its significance, the Ach Circular Trail describes the different landscapes and natural features along the way.
Chapels, Museum and Local History
The “Chapels and Places of Interest” circular trail passes numerous small chapels, crosses and memorials around Bad Bayersoien. It starts and ends at the Tourist Information Office “In der Brandstatt”. The Bad Bayersoien War Memorial Chapel was built in 1925 in memory of 120 members of the municipality who fell in the First World War. From the chapel, there are views of Soier Lake, the Hörnle and the surrounding countryside.
The Rottstein also commemorates a specific chapter in local history: it stands at Dorfstraße 41 in front of “Haus Dodl” and commemorates the Rott privilege granted by Emperor Louis the Bavarian in 1332. The circular trail therefore features not only chapels and crosses but also historic memorial sites.
The museum in the Bierlinghaus displays a collection on contemporary popular piety, including hand-coloured copper engravings, reverse-glass paintings, convent crafts, pilgrimage mementos and sculptures. It also exhibits tools and equipment belonging to historic craft guilds based in Bad Bayersoien, as well as materials about peat extraction in the Moos. The museum also tells the story of the life and living conditions of the Bierlings, a family of merchants from Bayersoien.
