Culture
The present-day town center developed from a miners' settlement known as the Penzberg Colony. Only a few of the characteristic miners' houses have survived on Karlstraße and on the upper Friedrich-Ebert-Straße.
The Tutzing–Penzberg railway line went into operation in 1865 and supported the transportation of coal toward Munich. Penzberg's mining history also includes the founding of the miners' band and a shooting club in 1874.
Penzberg's population history reflects immigration from Bohemia, Croatia, South Tyrol, Lombardy, and Upper Austria. Craftspeople and merchants also settled there.
