St. George: Building history and Madonna

The foundation stone of St. George's Parish Church was laid on July 5, 1745, by Marianus II Mayr, Abbot of Steingaden. The church is attributed to master builder Dominikus Zimmermann. Its outline is reminiscent of the Wieskirche; hence it is also known as the “Little Wieskirche.” The attribution and the nickname offer two different architectural clues: the master builder is named with some reservation, while the comparison concerns the outline.

Inside is a Late Gothic Madonna and Child, originally from nearby Dietlried. St. George thus brings together a precisely dated event in its building history and a work of art from a different art-historical period. Those interested in churches and their furnishings will find both a named master builder and a specific artwork with a connection to its place of origin.

Outdoor swimming pool between Ingenried and Erbenschwang

The outdoor swimming pool is located away from the road between Ingenried and Erbenschwang. It offers relaxation and swimming fun for all ages. Swimming is therefore another possible focus for a stay, distinct from hiking or exploring church architecture. Geißtalweg and other hiking options

The Geißtalweg is an easy 2.6-kilometer hike. It takes about 41 minutes and includes 49 meters of ascent. The trail connects Ingenried and Sachsenried, crossing the valley that gives it its name, the Geißtal. Together, the distance, approximate walking time and ascent provide guidance for planning your time. Since the operator may update the route figures, it is advisable to check them before setting out.

Chapels in Huttenried and Krottenhill

Described chapels can also be found in the villages of Huttenried and Krottenhill, which belong to the municipality of Ingenried. The village chapel of the Holy Cross in Huttenried dates from 1863. It is a single-nave plastered building with a three-sided choir termination and a roof turret. In Krottenhill stands the Catholic local chapel of the Holy Family, a small plastered hall building dating from 1894, with a polygonal choir termination and a roof turret.

The two chapels are easy to distinguish by their architectural forms and dates: Huttenried has a single-nave building with a three-sided choir termination, while Krottenhill has a small hall building with a polygonal termination. Both have a roof turret. Together with St. George, they add two further examples, built in different years, to the church architecture of the municipality.

Weilheim-Schongau in the wider region

The district of Weilheim-Schongau lies in the Pfaffenwinkel travel region. Its river landscape also provides a regional point of reference: the Lech forms Weilheim-Schongau's western boundary, the Ammer flows through its central area, and the Loisach runs along its eastern boundary.
