Church Art and Historic Routes
The Parish Church of the Assumption of Mary acquired its present appearance in the first half of the 18th century in the Rococo style. Its furnishings include a stucco pulpit and a Gothic Madonna dating from 1420. The ceiling fresco in the nave depicts the Assumption of Mary; the Stations of the Cross are frescoes by Johannes Hehl. Hehl’s frescoes and the stucco work by Josef Fischer of Faulenbach also shape the church. Sections of the Roman Imperial Road have also been preserved in Hohenfurch, as part of the Augsburg–Füssen route. At Kalkbrenner Chapel, the hermitage beneath the tower offers a place to rest and a private space for prayer. From the seat, there is a direct view of the Madonna. The extension of the Lech Cycle Path starts in Hohenfurch and leads through lush greenery to Winkel Chapel south of Kinsau. A variant of the auerbergland@ventureroute, by contrast, starts on the western outskirts of the municipality of Hohenfurch. It runs via Höhenberg and the Pfaffental valley to Kinsau on the Lech; the return to Hohenfurch follows the long-distance cycle route along the Via Claudia Augusta. This variant is part of the waymarked cycling network.
