Town history at the Schwarzachtal Local History Museum
Since 1980, the Schwarzachtal Local History Museum has been housed in the historic rooms of the former town palace. The palace was a residence of the Wittelsbach prince-electors in the 15th century. The exhibition explores the history and culture of the town of Neunburg vorm Wald and the Schwarzach Valley, spanning the period from its beginnings to the post-war era. It comprises 18 rooms and a lapidarium, with a total exhibition area of 1,000 square metres. The museum can therefore be viewed on two levels: the building’s former purpose and an exhibition whose themes cover the town and valley over a long period.
Hiking, cycling and sailing
The GOLDSTEIG premium hiking trail runs directly through Neunburg vorm Wald. At Lake Eixendorf, near Neunburg, a hiking trail goes around the entire lake, while a cycle path runs along its southern shore. The routes differ in their course and mode of transport: the GOLDSTEIG passes through the town, the other hiking trail circles the lake, and the cycle path follows its southern shore. The Neunburg Yacht Club offers sailing on Lake Eixendorf. This adds a water sport to the hiking and cycling options.
Outdoor adventure pool and sports facilities
The heated Neunburg vorm Wald outdoor adventure pool has a 26°C swimming pool that is 33.3 metres long. There is also a non-swimmer pool with two slides measuring 55 and 12 metres. Massage jets, a current channel, a children’s paddling pool, a water mushroom and a warm room round out the facilities. This means swimming, non-swimming, paddling and other water activities can be considered as distinct areas of the pool. The outdoor adventure pool also has table tennis tables, a beach volleyball court, a soccer field and a basketball facility. Alongside the swimming areas, the pool therefore offers several named sports activities.
The “Fish” adventure trail
Along the “Fish” adventure trail, Eixi introduces visitors to other fish of Lake Eixendorf and the Schwarzach. Several skill-testing stations add to the trail. It brings together a theme centered on the fish of these two bodies of water and hands-on stations. The viewing hatch in the wooden carp “Eixi” is seven metres high.
