Cross-country ski trails and winter activities

The Hasenmahd trail is an easy, classically groomed loop of about 2 km with no significant climbs. South of Görisried, the approximately 5.5 km Neuwald trail offers both a classic track and a skating trail; it has moderate climbs and descents. The two trails therefore differ both in length and in the tracks and terrain they offer.

An ice and skating rink is located opposite the multi-purpose hall on Waldbachstraße. Depending on the weather, the ice surface can be used from December or January. In summer, ramps and small goals are available there for street hockey and ice hockey. The ice surface is therefore explicitly weather-dependent; check whether it is open if you are planning a visit during the colder months.

Hiking routes for different timeframes

The Hohenberg circular trail is about 3 km long and takes roughly an hour. From the viewpoint, you can see across Görisried, the districts of Staig and Hasenmahd, and the mountains. For longer hikes, options include the approximately 7 km route to Kälberschächele, which takes around 2¼ hours, the 10 km Wildberger-Hof circular trail, which takes around 2¾ hours, and the 12 km Neuwald-Buchwald circular trail, which takes around 3½ hours. At Kälberschächele, on the hilltop, you will find a wayside cross, a bench and a hiking car park; on a clear day, you can see across the Alpine range. The Wildberger-Hof circular trail follows a gravel forest track to a viewpoint near Wildberg. The Neuwald-Buchwald circular trail follows forest tracks through the woods, alongside small streams and across flower meadows.

Other routes offer different landscape highlights. The Moor circular trail starts in the village centre, passes through woodland and moorland close to the village, then returns across meadows with Alpine views. The Mühlhalde circular trail starts at the church square, follows the Waldbach and Mühlbach past the outdoor swimming pool, and runs directly through the Görisried nature trail. The Kempter Wald circular trail also starts in the village centre, passes through the Kempter Forest and returns to Görisried via the Beilstein Alpine pasture.

Cycling routes from Görisried

Three described loops start and end in Görisried. The Northern Kempter Forest Loop is 24.8 km long and has 330 metres of elevation gain. At 25.9 km, the Northern Wertach Valley Loop is only 1.1 km longer, but has 270 metres of elevation gain. At 34 km and 450 metres of elevation gain, the Southern Wertach Valley Loop is the longest and has the most elevation gain of the three. This lets you compare route length and elevation gain directly, rather than judging by the route name alone.

Nature and leisure by the outdoor pool

Görisried is set amid woodland and moorland lakes, with views of the Allgäu Alps. The municipal area includes a protected landscape with extensive moorland reserves and wetlands, home to rare orchid species, flowers, herbs and butterflies. Behind the outdoor pool, a nature trail lies in a wooded area. Several stations share interesting facts about the forest and nature.

The natural outdoor swimming pool is fed by spring water, uses no chlorine and is free of charge; changing rooms and toilet facilities are available. Operational details may vary seasonally, so it is advisable to check shortly before your visit. A free beach volleyball court is located directly next to the outdoor pool. A public table-tennis table adds to the facilities nearby.

Churches, chapel and suspension walkway

The present building of the parish church of St Oswald was constructed in a Neo-Gothic style in 1848/49, after the earlier church was destroyed in the great fire of 1823. The Görisried chapel trail is a day hike that starts at this church in the village centre. The chapel of St Ursula, with its plague cemetery, was built in 1681 and features a painted wooden-panel ceiling.

The hike to the suspension walkway also starts at the chapel of St Ursula on the edge of the village, in the direction of Stadels and Wildberg; there is a car park there. The route descends through the Wertach Valley and crosses a small bridge to a suspension walkway that swings freely above the Wertach. Another nearby natural and cultural landmark in the Kempter Forest is the large Nagelfluh rock formation known as Dengelstein, which is the subject of local legends and myths.
