Schwangau is a municipality in the Bavarian-Swabian district of Ostallgäu. The town is located in the Allgäu region in southern Bavaria on the Romantic Road, which ends in Füssen, about four kilometers away.

Schwangau’s elevation ranges from approximately 770 meters above sea level at Lake Forggensee to 2,082 meters at the Hochplatte in the Ammergau Alps.
