Culture

Historically, Coburg was associated with the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha as well as the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, and until 1918 it was one of the capitals of these two duchies. In the immediate vicinity are Falkenegg Castle, Callenberg Castle, and the Museum of Equipment of the Coburg Region. Hohenstein Castle is also located in the area surrounding Coburg.

Landscape

Coburg lies on the southern edge of the Thuringian Forest. Vesteberg and Eckartsberg are located nearby; Hoher Stein lies in the area surrounding Coburg.

City and transport

Coburg railway station is about a 15-minute walk from the central market square. From there, regular connections are available to Nuremberg and Bamberg.
