Residential History and Architecture
Ehrenburg Palace served as the town residence of the Dukes of Coburg from 1547 to 1918. In the 19th century, Duke Ernst I had the palace’s current Neo-Gothic façade designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel. Ehrenburg thus offers a tangible introduction to the city’s architectural history and ducal past. The churches also preserve significant historical features: St. Moriz contains a Renaissance ducal tomb and an alabaster epitaph for Duke Johann Friedrich the Middle. Market Square and City Life
