Oberleichtersbach is now a municipality in the Lower Franconian district of Bad Kissingen in Bavaria. The town was first mentioned in official documents in 812. Its history is connected with the former Prince-Bishopric of Fulda and the territorial changes that preceded its incorporation into Bavaria. In 1816, Oberleichtersbach became part of Bavaria; during the Bavarian administrative reforms of 1818, the town developed into its present-day municipality.
