Wilburgstetten is located in the Ansbach district of Middle Franconia, Bavaria. The Romantic Road passes through Wilburgstetten on its route from Würzburg, Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Feuchtwangen toward Nördlingen.

In the Middle Ages, Wilburgstetten was located in the territory of the Counts of Oettingen; from 1261 onward, there was an independent local noble family there, the Rechenbergs.
