Hiking
The “Sentier pédestre des Chênes” hiking trail is a stroll suitable for pushchairs, passing beneath old, centuries-old oak trees. It starts at the car park by the church in Archamps and is open every day all year round.
The “Les Pitons par l’alpage de Chavanne” hiking loop starts either in the hamlet of Chez Servant or in the centre of Archamps. It leads through meadows and woodland up to Grand Piton; from the summit pastures, it offers 360-degree panoramas of Geneva and the Alps.
Nature
The wild tulip (Tulipa sylvestris) blooms in spring in some protected areas and is part of Archamps’ local natural heritage. In the past, wild tulips formed dense carpets of flowers between Archamps and Neydens. The wild tulip can be observed in the lower part of the municipal garden next to the Raymond Fontaine building.
Eleven different bat species have been recorded in Archamps; all are protected at national level. In the Grotte d’Archamps, greater horseshoe bats and barbastelle bats have been observed hibernating.
Culture and History
The parish of Archamps has been documented as dependent on Talloires Abbey since 1145. The parish church of Archamps was consecrated in 1479. The Church of Saint Maurice was rebuilt in the 19th century in two construction phases; work on the choir and nave began in 1846–1848.
The Saint Maurice festival takes place every September in Archamps as a village festival.
The ruins of a castle in Archamps belonged in the 13th century to the Montfort nobles, vassals of the Counts of Geneva. The ruins of Montfort Castle lie at the foot of Salève at an altitude of approximately 850 m and are difficult to access.
