Trails and Nature

The Valleraugue tourist office is located in the Maison de Pays at the edge of the village on the road to Mont Aigoual. It provides advice on planning your stay as well as tourist information. The Sentier des 4000 marches begins and ends at the tourist office. The trail leads from Valleraugue via the former postman’s route to the summit of Aigoual, overcoming an elevation gain of 1,220 metres.

The year-round nature and activity offerings of the Pôle nature de l'Aigoual also include a mountain biking area. The Truc de Montaigu, the Pic de Barette, the Serre de Rouas and the Serre de la Toureille are located in the vicinity of Valleraugue. The Cévennes National Park is located around Valleraugue.

Culture and History

A cultural and historical tour takes visitors through Valleraugue’s historic streets and to its notable architectural monuments; 15 tourist information panels accompany the route. Les Chemins des bronzes is a 16-stop tour for exploring Valleraugue.

Visible traces of the former silk and chestnut production, as well as the reforestation of Aigoual, have been preserved in Valleraugue. These include raised houses, chimneys, former spinning mills, silkworm-rearing buildings and Clèdes. The Observatoire du Mont Aigoual is located in the Cévennes National Park and is an important site in environmental, heritage and scientific history.

The Transhumance Festival takes place every year in June in L'Espérou, which is part of Valleraugue.
