Nature and landscape

The landscapes offered to visitors in Dourbies include a formerly cultivated Cévennes chestnut grove, transhumance pastures, and the Forêt Domaniale de l’Aigoual.

Lac des Pises is located at an altitude of 1,250 m in the municipality of Dourbies, 15 km north of Le Vigan, on the southwestern slope of the Aigoual massif and in the heart of the Parc national des Cévennes. The lake is a remarkable area in this national park and serves nature conservation as well as the transhumance of herds from the Cévennes valleys.

Swimming in the Dourbie River is freely permitted at users’ own risk and with respect for private property. Recreational kayaking is freely practiced on the Dourbie at the practitioners’ own risk.

Village and cultural heritage

In 2018, Dourbies received the “Village de caractère” designation to preserve its small-scale cultural heritage. A signposted tour has been created for visiting the village.

The Notre Dame de l'Assomption church in Dourbies was built between 1883 and 1887 by all the inhabitants of the municipality. Most of them were poor, but deeply religious.
