Lake Hamerské jezero is fed by a side arm of the Ploučnice called Hamerská strouha. The lake is a popular and attractive fishing area.
History
South of Hamr na Jezeře, beyond Lake Hamerské jezero, lie the ruins of Děvín Castle, dating from the 13th century. Děvín Castle was founded before 1250 by the Markvartici noble family.
In the 16th century, Hamr na Jezeře had a mill on the Ploučnice as well as several iron hammers, where limonite extracted from nearby Děvín and its surroundings was processed. The neo-Gothic Chapel of Our Lady Help of Christians stands on Křížový vrch above Hamr na Jezeře. At the end of the 19th century, Hamr na Jezeře became a sought-after spa resort.
Things to Do
The second stage of the Ploučnice cycling route begins in Hamr na Jezeře and leads to Stráž pod Ralskem and Mimoň. The Ploučnice cycling route is signposted as Cycle Route 15 and runs from the source of the Ploučnice at the foot of Ještěd to the mouth of the Ploučnice into the Elbe in Děčín.
The Hamerský Circuit is a 9-kilometre circular route through the surroundings of Hamr na Jezeře and is suitable for families with children.
