The Žernovník stream rises in Dolní Černá Studnice. It flows through Huť and Bratříkov and joins the Jizera near Železný Brod.
Nature
Located on the slopes of the Černostudniční hřeben, Dolní Černá Studnice has a rather mountainous character. The nearby mountains include Maršovicky vrch, Černá Studnice and Pustina. In the wider regional area are Mariánská hora and Valdštejn Church.
The source of the Žernovník was formerly surrounded by beech trees whose trunks were covered with votive images.
Paths and viewpoints
A walk of approximately 2 km leads from Dolní Černá Studnice to Horní Černá Studnice. There is a lookout tower on the summit. The Černá Studnice lookout tower is 26 metres high and can be reached via 91 steps.
A high-altitude hiking trail leads to the “Berany” crossroads. The summit of Černá Studnice can be reached directly by car or bicycle; the access road runs through Dolní Černá Studnice.
When the Černá Studnice lookout tower is closed, a rock 50 m away offers a partial view. It was already prepared as a viewpoint in 1885.
History
An archaeological mining and processing area dating from the 6th millennium BC was discovered in Dolní Černá Studnice. It is described as one of the oldest surviving landscape relics of mining in Central and Western Europe.
At the foot of Černostudniční kopec, there was presumably an inn for travellers as early as the end of the 16th century. A historic inn hosted dances, wedding celebrations and secondary-school graduation reunions in the 1960s; however, it burned down and was not rebuilt.
