History and culture
A chapel for a statue of the Virgin Mary was built on Mariánská Hora in the 16th century. The statue had been found by a former local resident named Bittner. The pilgrimage tradition to the Chapel of the Virgin Mary was revived in 1990. After local parishioners had restored a new statue of the Virgin Mary, the chapel was reconsecrated in 1995.
The Mariánské schody are located in the eastern part of the Mariánská Hora settlement, about 300 metres from the chapel. They connect Mariánská Hora with Desná; according to tradition, there were originally 365 steps. A simple Stations of the Cross once ran along the Mariánské schody.
