Pechöfen: Hotels and Accommodations

Smolné Pece, historically known by the German name Pechöfen, is situated amid unspoiled nature on an extensive clearing on the northern slope of Hamerský vrch. Slightly more than half of the area is forested. As a popular recreational area, Smolné Pece offers a pleasant setting for relaxation and excursions in the surrounding area.

Nature and Geology

The local landscape includes the Smolné Pece geological site. It is located in a forest 0.5 km south of the shop in the town center and comprises above-ground extraction sites as well as overgrown spoil heaps from pegmatite mining. The site exposes an outcrop of the largest pegmatite body found to date in the Nejdek Massif.

History and Community Life

The name Pechöfen refers to the historical production of resin. Historically, tar kilns were used either to refine raw resins by melting them in special kilns, or resin was produced as a by-product of charcoal production in charcoal piles. The presumed historical predecessors of Smolné Pece included the huts of resin producers. Resin-rich wood from spruce and other conifers was an important prerequisite for establishing tar kilns.

The municipality regularly organizes cultural and social events, including the erection of the maypole in connection with the burning of the witches.

On Site

There is a children's playground with play equipment in front of the municipal office. The municipal office building also houses a local pub. Table tennis can be played in the community hall for CZK 50 per hour. Nohejbal is played predominantly on the sports field in Smolné Pece.
