Lichtenstadt: Hotels and Accommodation

Hroznětín combines a Jewish cemetery with preserved sacred buildings, regional history, and paths into the surrounding countryside. The Jewish cemetery on the northern outskirts of the town contains gravestones dating from the 17th to the 20th century, a gate, and an enclosing wall. It is considered one of the oldest Jewish cemeteries in Central Europe and is recommended as a tourist destination.

Culture and History

The cemetery is locked; you can borrow a key from the Hroznětín municipal office.

The Church of St. Peter and Paul was founded by Teplá Monastery at the beginning of the 13th century; its Romanesque building was completed in 1217. The church has been preserved and is occasionally accessible.

The Flaschner Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Hroznětín was restored in 2015. The town festivals are also part of the local cultural calendar: they take place annually on the last Saturday in August and include a cultural and music program. Since 2011, the cooking competition Krušnohorská bramboračka has also been part of the festival, during which potato soup is prepared in a cauldron.

Landscape and Trails

The Velký Rybník recreational area lies south of Hroznětín. In summer, it is suitable for fishing, cycling, mushroom picking, and hiking.

The Gloriett viewpoint offers a view from the southern Ore Mountains as far as Karlovy Vary. The first circular trail, Hroznětínská zastavení, is a 4 km loop with ten stations featuring information boards.

The surroundings of Hroznětín include Schlackenwerth Monastery and the mountains Popovský kříž, Vlčí hřbet [Jáchymov], Plešivec, and Perninský vrch.

Geographical Setting

In the wider regional surroundings of Hroznětín are the Church of the Ascension in Cranzahl and the Church of the Redeemer in Bärenstein. The single-track Karlovy Vary–Merklín railway line also runs through the area.
