Mariza is located 25 km southeast of Samokov and 15 km from Borovets. Dolna Banya is considered the nearest town and a mineral spa.

Culture and history
The Church of St Nicholas in Maritsa dates back to the 16th century, has medieval origins, and contains wall paintings designated as a cultural monument of national importance.
Mariza also has the more recent Church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, which was built in 1907. It is the parish church in Maritsa; its 110th anniversary was celebrated in 2017 with a liturgy and a blessing ceremony. There are also three chapels near the village.
Mariza's traditional livelihood was linked to local iron production. This brought economic growth in the second half of the 16th century.
