Manderfeld combines the landscape of the upper Our Valley with a 3 km-long Water Discovery Trail, historic buildings and several documented winter activities. The Water Discovery Trail, cross-country ski trails and guided snowshoe hikes each offer a different focus for a stay in and around the village.

Natural surroundings and Water Discovery Trail

Manderfeld is located in the upper Our Valley between the ridges of the Schneifel and Losheimergraben. The Water Discovery Trail is 3 km long and follows the Our. The Our is considered one of the most beautiful streams in the Eifel. In this way, the route combines the course of the stream with the landscape of the Our Valley.

The trail invites families and school groups to embark on a tour of discovery.

The Genuss Tour 15 offers a different perspective. On this tour, the view from Manderfeld extends unobstructed all the way to the horizon. While the Water Discovery Trail follows the Our, the Genuss Tour 15 focuses on the vastness of the view. The two destinations therefore appeal to different ways of experiencing the landscape.

Winter activities in Manderfeld

In winter, Manderfeld offers cross-country ski trails and guided snowshoe hikes. Cross-country skiing takes place on marked trails, while the snowshoe hikes are guided.

The village's architectural and cultural history

The parish church of Saint Lambert is a Gothic building with a preserved Romanesque tower. This tower probably dates from the 11th or 12th century. The Romanesque tower is the older part of the building alongside the Gothic church. After 1520, the church was restored at the request of Richard von Geiffenclau. The building therefore brings together different historical construction phases in the church structure.

The Stations of the Cross are also part of Manderfeld's architectural and cultural history. They have been listed as a protected monument since 1990 and are therefore among the village's protected architectural monuments. Together with the parish church, they form another cultural point of reference alongside the landscape and winter activities.

In the villagescape, the name “Treeschland” and the use of the red sandstone popular in the Moselle region are visible indications of the area's former affiliation with the Electorate of Trier. Until 1794, the village and the surrounding hamlets belonged to this territory. This historical connection is reflected both in a traditional name and in a building material that was used.

Transport connections and village location

Bus route 401 connects Vielsalm, St. Vith, Manderfeld and Losheimergraben. Manderfeld is therefore situated along a connection that includes several places between Vielsalm, St. Vith and Losheimergraben. For the specific use of the route, the relevant timetable and current connection are decisive; the route itself does not indicate any particular location of an accommodation.

For a comparison with other places in the surrounding area, you can visit the pages for Wirtzfeld and Rocherath. Manderfeld itself combines the Our watercourse, the expansive view from the Genuss Tour 15, winter activities and historic features of the village.
