Andelsbuch brings together several travel interests that can be clearly distinguished: trails through alpine pastureland and landscapes, regional craftsmanship, historic sites, and a mountain destination accessible in two sections by the Tal–Gerach and Gerach–Niedere double chairlifts. Those looking for accommodation in Andelsbuch can therefore plan their stay around their own interests – for example with the alpine-history educational path, cultural visits or a ride up to Niedere.

Trails through Alpine Pastureland and Landscapes

The alpine-history educational path is designed as a circular trail and offers several routes to choose from. There are also opportunities to take shortcuts. One of its routes leads families through alpine pastureland, across a raised bog and over a mountain ridge. Informative display panels provide insights into the alpine flora. For planning the day, the main consideration is the choice between the various routes; no specific trail lengths or walking times are associated with this.

Another way to explore Andelsbuch is by bicycle. The cycle path runs through the entire municipality of Andelsbuch and continues up the valley to Schoppernau or down the valley to Doren. Those who want to combine different modes of transport during their stay will thus find a second clearly defined way to explore the town and surrounding landscape alongside the alpine-history educational path.

Werkraumhaus and Historic Sites

Werkraumhaus has been located in Werkraum Bregenzerwald since 2013. The building was designed by Swiss architect Peter Zumthor and constructed by members of Werkraum. It symbolises regional craftsmanship and serves as an exhibition and meeting venue. It is accessible without barriers. This means that a stay in Andelsbuch can also be complemented by a cultural focus without limiting it to purely mountain or trail experiences.

The church in Andelsbuch is also part of the town’s history. In connection with the years 1086 to 1092, it is considered the oldest parish and therefore the mother church of the Inner Bregenzerwald. The “Umgang Andelsbuch” circular tour also takes you to the noteworthy “Hof Nr. 626” house. The Bezegg-Sul stands in front of the Bezegg pass at an elevation of around 800 metres. The Neo-Gothic, listed column commemorates the historic “Forest Republic”.

Waterways and Niedere

Water management and waterways also shape individual destinations in Andelsbuch. The Brühlbach, also known as the Andelsbuch village stream, has carved deeply into the slate rock between Andelsbuch and Egg, thereby creating the waterfalls. Andelsbuch Power Station is an Art Nouveau building. The “Andelsbuch | Trails to the Water – Andelsbuch Power Station with Reservoirs” hike passes two reservoirs.

The Tal–Gerach and Gerach–Niedere double chairlifts provide access to the mountain. In two sections, they take you to Niedere, the local mountain of Andelsbuch, which rises to 1,540 metres.
