Hintertux: Glacier Experiences and Adventure Trails

Hintertux combines a high-altitude glacier experience with guided cave visits and varied trails through the landscape. Some destinations start in Hintertux, while others begin at a mountain station or follow their own route.

Glacier experiences with different visiting formats

The Hintertux Glacier cable car runs from Hintertux in three sections up to an elevation of 3,250 metres. The mountain station is the upper terminal of the cable car and not the starting point in the village. Luis' Glacier Flea Park is located at the mountain station of Glacier Bus III on the Hintertux Glacier, also at 3,250 metres. This clearly separates the starting point from the mountain station: the cable car begins in Hintertux, while the Glacier Flea Park is reached only at the mountain station. The entrance to Nature's Ice Palace can also be reached from the mountain station of Glacier Bus 3 in three to four minutes on foot. On guided tours, Nature's Ice Palace leads into a crevasse. A crevasse is a natural opening in the glacier ice. The visit therefore describes a guided stay inside an ice formation and not merely the short walk from the mountain station. There, the experience includes icicles, sparkling ice crystals, frozen waterfalls and a glacial lake. The guided nature of the visit defines the experience and distinguishes it from a freely paced walk in the glacier area. The Spannagel Cave is visited as part of a guided tour. The guided show-cave tour lasts approximately one hour and takes place year-round. The duration should be understood as an approximate value and refers to the tour, not to a schedule fixed down to the minute. At Spannagel Cave, the focus is therefore on a cave tour with an approximate duration; Nature's Ice Palace, by contrast, combines access from the mountain station with the guided exploration of a crevasse.

Adventure trails between the Tuxbach stream, waterfalls and the glacier

The Tuxbach Adventure Trail with TUX Worlds crosses a suspension bridge, passes through a tunnel and continues to Hintertux. The route therefore connects several distinctive trail settings and is designed as an adventure trail rather than merely as a connection between two points. The Schraubenfälle Waterfall Trail has a different focus. It passes the Kesselfall waterfall, climbs to the natural monument known as the “Schraubenfälle” and then continues over a narrow bridge to the valley basin at Waldeben. The trail thus combines a waterfall, ascent, natural monument and bridge in a single route. The sequence is part of the trail's character: the section at Kesselfall is followed first by the ascent and then by the crossing over the bridge. The circular hiking trail Life at the Foot of the Glacier descends to the centre of Hintertux and returns to the starting point along the Tuxbach stream. Snow experience on the Hintertux Glacier

The Hintertux Glacier offers a snow experience every day of the year. This statement does not refer to specific lifts or pistes that are open, current snow depths or individual operating hours.
