Ginzling: Ice Climbing, Tobogganing and Nature Park

Ginzling combines winter activities with the mountain landscape of the Zillertal Alps Nature Park.

Winter activities for different interests

The Zillertal Ice Climbing Park is located in Ginzling on the Zamserbach at an altitude of 1,310 m. It consists of two sectors and offers ice routes around 35 m long for beginners and experienced ice climbers. The ice climbing park is therefore located above Ginzling, which lies at 999 m. Another winter option is the toboggan run at the Tristenbachalm. It is 2.1 km long, starts at an altitude of 1,200 m and is regularly groomed. The start of the toboggan run is therefore also above the village, which lies at 999 m. Alongside the ice climbing park, this provides a separate option for a day of tobogganing. Around the Nature Park House in Ginzling, the storytelling trail “The Dornauberg Giants” also leads through an audio experience with riddles in which Hedwig, Hans and Emil come to life. This complements the sporting activities with a narrative activity.

Mountain landscape and protected trails

Ginzling lies at 999 m in the Zemmgrund valley amid the mountain world of the Zillertal Alps Nature Park. The high-mountain nature park extends from approximately 1,000 m near Ginzling to 3,509 m at the Hochfeiler. Most hiking trails in Ginzling lie within the protected area of the Zillertal Alps Nature Park. All hiking trails bear the Tyrolean Mountain Trail Seal of Approval. For an understanding of the village, this means that, alongside individual winter activities, the trail network with its protected surroundings is also a defining feature of the local character. One specific mountain route leads from the Ginzling Nature Park House to the Greizer Hut through the Floitengrund valley. It passes through extensive woodland and alpine pasture sections; increasingly, broad views open up of the rugged Floitenkees glacier and the surrounding Zillertal Alps. The route thus connects a starting point in the village with a landscape that becomes distinctly more alpine as it progresses.

Local history and recurring traditions

The Zillertal Steinbockmarsch has been held in Ginzling since 1969. It is therefore one of the themes that has been associated with the village for many years. The Maxhütte also adds a historical aspect to the connection with nature and hiking: it was once a hunting lodge commissioned by Prince Franz Josef von Auersperg. Its former use expressly remains part of its history. Ginzling therefore offers various points of interest for a stay: the ice climbing park and toboggan run for winter activities, the storytelling trail and the nature park trails for shared excursions, as well as the mountain landscape and local history for visitors who do not want to limit their stay to a single sport.
