It initially follows a short lakeside path and then a trail cut into the rock along the western shore of Lake Achensee towards Gaisalm. In places, there are very narrow and highly exposed sections; sure-footedness and a head for heights are required. The route therefore cannot simply be equated with the Alpentiere circular hiking trail, which has been developed to be suitable for prams.

Lake, cable car and excursion experiences

The ride on the Karwendel cable car offers views across the entire eight-kilometre-long Lake Achensee. Excursion trips operated by the Achensee shipping company offer views of the Karwendel and Rofan mountain ranges.
