Prutz as a place to stay

Prutz lies at the entrance to the Kaunertal in a fertile valley basin. The Kaunergrat, Glockturmkamm and Samnaun Group frame the landscape and give the village a clear connection to its surroundings. In summer, Prutz is a popular starting point for hikes and mountain biking tours in the Kaunertal and in the Austria–Switzerland–Italy border region. When planning your days outdoors, you can choose between hikes and mountain biking tours in this regional setting.

An official interactive village map is available to help you find your way around. If the municipal website is redesigned, check whether the map is still available. This gives you an overview of Prutz before you add individual destinations and routes to your plans.

Cycling and walking routes

Two cycle routes along the Inn offer different points of reference: the Inn Cycle Path in the Tyrolean Oberland passes through the valley floor near Prutz, while section R8 of the Via Claudia Augusta runs along the Inn to Prutz. This information helps you distinguish between their respective routes without treating them as the same route. Check current route information before setting out on a cycling tour.

The walking route is called “Prutz – Leitenwald – Fischer Ranch – Prutz.” It starts in Prutz, follows the Leitenwaldweg and reaches the Fischer Ranch between the main road and the Faggenbach.

Village character and history

Prutz’s center has retained a village character with narrow lanes, typical of a settlement in western Tyrol. The history of the parish church of Maria Himmelfahrt also goes back a long way: it dates back to the 11th century. These two points lead to different aspects of the village, from its historic center to its long church history.

Another historical account concerns the Sauerbrunn spring in Prutz. It has been known since 1212; according to the story, the shepherd Nikolaus Schederle discovered it that year. The cautious wording is part of the story. Local traditions are highly valued in Prutz, and one of the beautifully painted farmhouses can be seen there. Alongside the village’s history, visible examples of local architecture are also in focus.

Outdoor pool, fishing and events

The Prutz outdoor pool offers a spacious swimming area with a circular pool design, a 42-metre water slide, a counter-current system, a children’s pool, a sunbathing lawn and a playground. It is open seasonally. So, if you are planning a visit, check the pool’s opening dates before your trip.

The Inn is designated for fishing from the mouth of the Fendler Bach, between Ried and Prutz, to a point shortly before the Pontlatz Bridge. Proof of having completed fishing instruction is required. Check the current fishing regulations before you go fishing. The Prutz Apple Festival takes place on the last Sunday in September; specific event details may change. At Maass-Brand in Prutz, you can enjoy and discover fine spirits on Tuesdays. Before your visit, check whether this event is being offered on your preferred date.
