Among the distinctive options in Flaurling are short walking paths, alpine pasture tours and destinations of cultural and historical interest. On the Kalvarienberg walking path, you can get a clear sense of the distance, elevation gain and walking time; named landmarks provide orientation along the route to Flaurlinger Alm. The tour to Oberhofer Galtalm leads to a destination of its own. Chapels, religious art and the history of the Mair Mill add further subjects to explore in the village.

Walking Paths and Tours

The Kalvarienberg walking path starts in the village center of Flaurling and leads through the winding Mitteldorf district and the dense mixed forest, past Risschloss. Several chapels invite you to stop along the way. The route is classified as easy, is 1 km long and includes 10 meters of elevation gain; walking time is 30 minutes. Taken together, the distance, elevation gain and time provide clear guidance for a short walk.

Another route leads from the village center to Flaurlinger Alm: via the hamlet of Schwaighof, through the Flaurlinger Valley, across Kanzing Bridge and past Kohler Chapel to Alpine Club trail number 154. This route can also be ridden by mountain bike. Check trail conditions before setting out. Another tour, Flaurling–Oberhofer Galtalm, also starts in the village center and ends at the Galtalm. This makes it possible to compare the measured walking path, the mountain biking option to Flaurlinger Alm and the tour to Galtalm based on their different destinations and route features.

Kalvarienberg, Chapels and Art

Kalvarienberg stands on a rise southeast of the village and dates from 1824. Eleven neo-Romanesque chapels with columned porticoes lead to the Kalvarienberg Chapel itself. The ensemble therefore offers more than a single chapel building: the sequence of eleven chapels points the way to the main chapel. Together with the chapels along the walking path, this sequence shapes the cultural character of Kalvarienberg.

Risschloss is located above Flaurling, near the parish church at the edge of the forest. It can only be viewed from the outside; check the possibility of visiting locally before you arrive. The Ris Chapel houses a Gothic winged altarpiece dating from 1510. Another work of art is the mosaic of Saint Notburga, installed on the north façade of Ris-Schlössl in 1909.

Saint Notburga is also honored with a recurring celebration: every year, around September 13, a Mass is held in her honor at the small Riskirche. The date is approximately around that day. If you would like to include the Mass in your trip, ask about the exact date in advance. The history of Bärfall Chapel has a different timeframe: it was restored in recent years by the village community. In Flaurling, you can therefore encounter both sacred art preserved over the long term and a more recent community restoration.

Local History and Everyday Life

The Mair Mill is part of Flaurling’s history of daily provisions. For centuries, it supplied the farmers of Flaurling and the neighboring municipality of Oberhofen with flour for their daily bread. Its importance therefore extended beyond its own village: the supply of flour connected Flaurling’s agriculture with that of the neighboring municipality. This look at work and food adds the history of everyday life to the impressions of chapels, art and walking paths.
