Wiese: Winter Hiking, Cross-Country Skiing and Climbing Areas

The Kitzgarten cross-country ski trail leads from Boden through the Kitzgarten Gorge to Wiese and then returns to Boden along the same route. The trail therefore connects the valley points of Boden and Wiese. Another winter option is the winter hiking trail from Mittelberg to Wiese. It is 21 km long; you can join or leave the trail at any hamlet. This allows the trail to be used in sections without having to plan the entire route as one continuous tour. A valley hiking trail also leads from Mandarfen to Wiese. The route is approximately 22 km long; it can be travelled with an electric handcycle and, on sections of the route, with a Swiss-Trac. Trails through Gorge and Valley

Several routes place Wiese in different scenic contexts. One route follows the Pitze through the Kitzgarten Gorge to the hamlet of Wiese. The Alois-Gabl Trail also runs through the Kitzgarten Gorge to Zaunhof and then continues along the Pitze on a farm track. Both routes pass through the Kitzgarten Gorge, but lead in different directions. The two trails therefore have different destinations: Wiese on one route and Zaunhof on the other. The valley hike from Stillebach to Wiese follows the Pitzbach stream and passes waterfalls. The waterfalls originate from the Kaunergrat and the Geigenkamm. This connection therefore differs from the routes through the Kitzgarten Gorge: here, the stream and waterfalls are the main features, while the other trails explicitly lead through the gorge or along the Pitze.

Climbing Areas and Practical Travel Information

The Wiese sport climbing area can be reached by bus to the Zaunhof Wiese stop. There is also a Wiese II car park at the end of the village of Wiese. You can reach the Obere Wiese ice climbing area by bus to the Wiese stop; parking is available at the end of the Wiese district on the left-hand side. The arrival points therefore also differ: Zaunhof Wiese serves the sport climbing area, while the Wiese stop serves the Obere Wiese ice climbing area. In addition to the trails and climbing areas, the chapels in Wiese occasionally host May devotions, rosaries in October, prayers for the dead and Stations of the Cross devotions.
