When looking for accommodation in Wald, you can tailor your trip to different interests. Cultural highlights include the Expositur Church of St Thomas in Arzl Wald and the Wald carnival. Nature and landscape highlights include the earth pyramids, the wildlife discovery trail and the view across the Inn Valley from Innblick. For planning your trip, it is especially important to distinguish the tradition-based event, whose date varies, from the geological, wildlife and landscape attractions.

Church and Wald Carnival

The Expositur Church of St Thomas is located in Arzl Wald. A chapel dedicated to St Thomas the Apostle was built in Wald in 1493. After another fire in 1909, master builder Hörmann from Mötz gave the Wald subsidiary church its present appearance. The dedication to Thomas and the later architectural work provide two dated points of reference in the church’s history. This makes it possible to place the chapel and the subsidiary church’s present appearance in their historical context.

At the Wald carnival, after the midday bells ring, more than 200 men and young men put on their masks and parade through the village. The event takes place every four years in the hamlet of Wald. This cycle makes the timing an important part of your travel plans. If the carnival is your main reason for travelling, check the next confirmed event date in advance and plan your trip around it.

Earth Pyramids, Wildlife and Views

The earth pyramids are a natural attraction formed by centuries of erosion. Their formation reflects a natural process that has unfolded over a long period of time. The Earth Pyramids circular trail includes a short detour to a waterfall. This route therefore brings together a geological feature and another specific natural attraction.

The wildlife discovery trail is located in Arzl/Wald, near the “Waldeck” snack station. Along the trail, visitors can learn interesting facts about the lives of the region’s wild animals in an engaging way. Its focus is therefore on sharing knowledge about wildlife. By contrast, the earth pyramids are all about their formation and erosion. When choosing between these nature experiences, you can decide whether you are more interested in wildlife or geological processes.

From the “Innblick” viewing platform, you can enjoy a view of the Inn Valley. This perspective complements the wildlife and geological themes with a landscape view. The nature experiences therefore differ in focus: learning about wild animals, the formation of the earth pyramids or views of the valley.

Routes and Bus Planning

The “Arzl – Benni-Raich Bridge – Wald” route leads from Arzl towards Wald as far as the “Pitzenebene” settlement. There, you can admire the suspension bridge, which spans 137.7 m. The span describes the structure and helps identify the bridge as a specific landmark on the route.

Route “Wald 3” can be reached by bus to the Wald Feuerwehr stop. Check the current timetable for your specific journey. The two route descriptions have different focuses: “Arzl – Benni-Raich Bridge – Wald” highlights the route and the bridge, while “Wald 3” focuses on the bus connection to the stop.
