Obdach: Cross-country skiing, ski touring and trails in the Seetal Alps
Accommodation in Obdach
Obdach combines winter activities with trails through the Seetal Alps and several destinations for excursions. For a skiing holiday, the Rieseralm ski area is particularly relevant: it is an ideal starting point for numerous ski tours in the Seetal Alps. In addition, there are two cross-country ski trails.
Cross-country skiing in St. Wolfgang and at Hochfeld
The St. Wolfgang cross-country ski trail is 3 km long, groomed for both classic cross-country skiing and skating, and designed as a loop. It has access points at the local heritage house in St. Wolfgang and at the Gasthof & Pension Seetalblick. Due to its loop format and the two skiing techniques, it clearly differs from a simple out-and-back route.
A second option is the 2.5 km-long cross-country ski trail at Hochfeld in Obdach. Here too, you can ski using either the classic technique or skating. The access point is approximately 100 m before the Pauliwirt inn at the sports field. This information should be understood as an approximate value. If you want to link your choice of trail to a specific accommodation location, you should therefore check the respective access point separately in relation to the property's location.
Hiking trails and views around the Zirbitz
The municipality of Obdach extends westwards into the Seetal Alps. Around the Zirbitz is a hiking area with wide-ranging trails and magnificent views from the summit. A specific point of orientation in the town centre is the route “From Obdach via the adventure trail to the St. Anna viewing platform”. It begins at the Marian column in the centre of Obdach.
The alpine landscape also includes Lake Lavantsee. It lies below the summit of the Zirbitzkogel at an altitude of 2,053 m and is the source of the Lavant River. The lake is most easily reached from the Waldheimhütte; the trail passes Maria in der Zirbe, the Turkish Cross and the Köhlerhütte. The St. Anna viewing platform in St. Anna am Lavantegg also offers a view. The Granitzenbach stream is another documented landscape feature and a natural monument in Zirbenland.
Cycling trail and culture as additional options
For a combination of cycling and a winter holiday, the Zirbenland cycle path R26 is a separate point of orientation. It runs from Fisching or Weißkirchen to Obdach. Along this section, the cycle path is separate from the road. This is a specific route detail, but it says nothing about the distance from an accommodation to individual points.
Culture can also be taken into account when choosing a location. Guided tours of the Schaumühle can be booked. The parish church of St. Giles in Obdach was first mentioned in documents in 1207. This means that, alongside the winter activities, visitors can also enjoy a guided mill experience and a historically documented church building.
For an additional comparison of locations, you can also consider Obdachegg, Judenburg, Weißkirchen in der Steiermark, Pusterwald, St. Wolfgang, Sauerbrunn, Oberkurzheim and Fohnsdorf.
