Schaueregg: Hiking Trails, Chapels and Winter Access
Accommodation in Schaueregg
Schaueregg can be explored for a stay through several specific points of reference: At Tauchen-Schaueregg railway station, you can join hiking trail 07 directly; the Central Alpine Trail 02 runs past the Hallerhaus; and the approach from Vienna for the Wexl Trails Hochwechsel Trail Loop passes through Tränktörl in the Schaueregg district. There is also winter ski access at the Hallerhaus and historic chapels. These activities have different starting points and points of reference; consider them separately when planning and check which ones matter for your stay.
Hiking Trails and Routes
At Tauchen-Schaueregg railway station, you can join hiking trail 07 directly. The Central Alpine Trail 02 runs past the Hallerhaus, with endpoints in Hainburg and Feldkirch. These are different points of reference when choosing a hike: the station indicates a trailhead, while the route past the Hallerhaus and its two endpoints help put the Central Alpine Trail into context. Before setting out on a specific hike, check the route conditions to make sure your chosen starting point suits your planned route.
A leisurely circular hike from Krumbach offers a different kind of route: It follows Knappenhofweg uphill to Boden, continues through Schaueregg and Maierhöfen, and returns to Krumbach. Returning to the starting point distinguishes it from joining hiking trail 07 directly at Tauchen-Schaueregg railway station. When comparing the two, you can first consider the route type and starting point: a loop from Krumbach or a trailhead at the railway station.
Winter Access and Cycling Approach
In winter, the Hallerhaus can be reached directly on skis from the Mönichkirchen-Mariensee ski area. This access is seasonal, and conditions may vary. Check them before your visit.
For cycling plans, the approach from Vienna for the Wexl Trails Hochwechsel Trail Loop passes through Tränktörl in the Schaueregg district. This is a different travel reference from ski access at the Hallerhaus: for the trail loop, it concerns the described approach; for the Hallerhaus, it concerns winter access on skis. Choose your destinations according to the activity that matters for your stay.
Chapels and Elevation
The Prince Bourbon-Parma Crypt Chapel houses the crypt of the Austrian Bourbons. It is located in the valley of Thalberger Schwaig in Schaueregg at an elevation of about 1,300 m, on the eastern slope between Lorenzkogel (1,353 m) and Windhag (1,395 m). The elevation figures refer to different locations: about 1,300 m for the chapel’s location, 1,353 m for Lorenzkogel and 1,395 m for Windhag.
The Chapel of Saints Joseph and Hubert is also in Schaueregg and is dated 1948. Its date provides a chronological reference, while the Prince Bourbon-Parma Crypt Chapel is distinguished by the crypt of the Austrian Bourbons. The two chapels can thus be distinguished by their different names, functions and historical associations.
Regional Transport
The municipality of Pinggau is also an important point of reference for regional transport. It has two stations on the Thermenbahn railway line between Wiener Neustadt and Fehring. There is also a bus stop with a Park and Ride facility for regional and long-distance buses to Vienna, Hartberg, Gleisdorf, southern Burgenland and Vienna Airport.
These transport services relate to the municipality of Pinggau, not to a specific address. If you are planning a specific connection to your destination in Schaueregg, check the appropriate onward connection.
