Observatory and Planet Trail
The public Vulkanland Observatory is located on Rosenhügel in Auersbach. It was built in 2001 and consists of two domes measuring five and three meters in diameter. Its equipment includes two Meade telescopes measuring 16 and ten inches. The observatory is far enough from the lights of the town of Feldbach to allow for dark nights of observation.
The Auersbach Planet Trail starts right by the observatory. It is 5.9 kilometers long and has ten stations: the Sun, eight planets and Pluto. The planets are depicted as bronze reliefs with Braille. Astronomy enthusiasts will find a trail with a clearly defined Solar System theme and stations featuring different celestial bodies.
The AUERSBACH Himmel-Erden-Weg offers a different kind of trail experience. It runs mostly along field and forest paths and is described as varied. Its features include numerous stations and beautiful views. Auersbach therefore offers both a trail with a set length and number of planetary stations, and a route featuring scenery and views.
Brewery tours with tastings
Lava Bräu in Auersbach was founded in 2001 as a small brewery in the Styrian Vulkanland. On a tour, you visit the brewery and taste two organic beers; the tour lasts about 45 minutes. Group tours are available Monday through Saturday by prior arrangement. No tours are held on Sundays or public holidays. If you are planning a group tour, take into account the need to book in advance and the days on which tours are offered.
Vulcano Experience World and tours
The Vulcano Experience World in Auersbach offers more than 1,000 square meters of experiences centered around prosciutto. These include culinary experiences, family outings and group activities. Guided tours last around 90 minutes and provide insights into the origins, philosophy and craftsmanship behind the product. The named features include special experience stations, the Vulcano farm and the piglet shared living quarters.
The offerings also include a multimedia tour that shows the entire life cycle of Vulcano ham. A Vulcano tour in Auersbach also includes a visit to the pigsty. Visitors can observe the Vulcano pigs being kept in conditions suited to their needs, including while they shower and eat. Check the current visitor arrangements before you arrive.
The two stated tour durations can be compared directly: a Lava Bräu tour lasts about 45 minutes, while guided Vulcano tours take around 90 minutes. This lets you compare the tours based on their stated durations. These figures refer to the tour duration; at Lava Bräu, the advance booking requirements and tour days also apply.
Countryside and Buschenschänken
Auersbach also offers a well-preserved cultural landscape. The AUERSBACH Himmel-Erden-Weg runs mostly along field and forest paths; its stations and views offer a different focus from the astronomical themes of the Planet Trail. If you want to visit a particular Buschenschank, check whether it is open before your visit.
Auersbach brings together clearly described trails and astronomy activities with tours, tastings and regional dining. If you have specific tours planned, it is worth taking the stated times and advance booking requirements into account.
